Guest Blog: 7 Ways to Love Reading More

I’m high on reading lately (lately? always?) so I had to talk about my favorite ways to make reading even better on Lynne St James’s blog today. As if that’s possible! Do you have any fun reading rituals I can steal? Come leave a comment and share them with me!

Recent studies have shown that nearly half of Americans have not read a book in the last year. More than that, about a third of Americans will never read a single book after graduating high school. As a certified book-aholic, this blows my mind. I’m an avid reader, myself, but I do have many friends who have every intention of reading books, they just don’t get around to it. They’re often too busy, or maybe when they do have downtime, they choose other forms of entertainment. With all the seasons of Friends out on Netflix, I’m guilty of this lately too!

But reading is still one of my favorite pastimes. Walking into a bookstore or library literally makes my heart beat faster with excitement and I can’t help but want to share that passion with others. If reading hasn’t been your thing or if you want to read but have a hard time finding the motivation to grab a book, here are a few of my favorite ways to make reading more fun:

Make a Reading Date. Sometimes the hardest part about reading is finding the time (until, of course, you find a book you must consume immediately when suddenly you find all kinds of time pockets). If you make reading a part of your schedule, though, you’ll be surprised how many books you can read in a year. I recommend every night before bed, but a Sunday afternoon is lovely too.
